The Holland Landing Anchor

Paulene with anchor

This anchor was forged in England to be used on a warship on the upper Great Lakes. It was drawn here from Kingston, Ontario in 1815 by oxen. By the time of its arrival here, the war of 1812 had ended, and the anchor was abandoned on sleighs at Soldier's Bay. In 1870 it was brought to this site where it now rests, 44° 06' 00" N - 79° 29' 00" W. A park was created here, called (you guessed it) "Anchor Park". The weight of the anchor is 4000 lbs and the lady and dog ( Paulene and Rusty) give an idea of the size.

The Latitude and Longitude are for Holland Landing, Ontario, not the actual park site. The town is small however and the park easy to find.
