Rusty Dog Forge/, blacksmithing by Harry Foster

memory box

This delightful collaboration was the result of an accident. When the pottery was being fired the sides of the box leaned in a touch and consequently the lid did not fit when all was finished.

Danielle Dupont, the potter approached me and asked could I elevate the top on some kind of ironwork frame and she would then turn it into a memory box.  We tossed around a number of ideas and this is what came out. The texture on the iron mimics the texture on the leaves in the glaze and the copper maple leaves also picks up the copper in the pottery.

Sometimes good things do happen by mistake.
